 The Urban Epic is managed by Tri-Maine Productions, an event management company based in Portland. Tri-Maine also organizes the popular Lobsterman Triathlon, as well as a number of other races in New England. Pre-Race Registration and Packet Pickup: Athletes will be required to attend packet pick-up. This is available at the following times: Friday July 9th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm inside the Transition Area at 58 Fore Street. Saturday, July 10th from 6:00am to 7:30am outside the Transition Area. Click here for directions to 58 Fore Street. Every participant must show proof of identity and sign the appropriate waivers. Athletes may leave their bikes and gear at their assigned spot on Friday night. The Transition Area is weather-proof and will be protected for the night by professional security personnel. There is no parking at the race venue on Saturday morning. There will be shuttles running from the designated parking lots throughout the day for athletes and spectators. All athletes will be bodymarked and pick up their chips on Saturday, July 10th between 6:00am and 8:00am at 58 Fore Street. Swim Course The 2010 Swim Course is the same as last year. It will be a counter-clockwise course that follows buoys off shore. The tide will be just past high, with very little current. Total distance = 1/2 mile  Mini-Transition After finishing the swim, you will stop at the mini-TA to pick up your shoes for the half-mile run to the main-TA at 58 Fore Street. You'll have to carry or wear your wetsuit, but don't worry, it's all flat! Bike Course The 2010 Bike Course will be very similar to last year. Leave Transition, take a right up to Eastern Prom, then a left onto Washington Ave. Take a right onto Fox and at the bottom of the hill, go right onto Franklin Arterial, then left onto Marginal Way. Take right onto Preble, then right onto Baxter Blvd. Stay on Baxter until you reach the 1st turnaround point just before Bates Street. Head back on Baxter until you reach the 2nd turnaround point at the intersection of Preble. Head back down Baxter to the 3rd turnaround point (same as the 1st). Return on Baxter, and proceed past the turnaround point onto Preble. Follow the same course back to the Transition Area, except go straight across Washington Ave at the top of Fox onto Walnut. Go over the hill and down the other side, before taking a right onto Eastern Prom, and heading back toward Transition. Total mileage = 13 miles . SPECIAL NOTICE REGARDING ROAD CLOSURES - PLEASE CLICK HERE AND READ. Run Course The 2010 Run Course is the same as last year. Start down the East End Path, then take a left at Cutter Street and head up the Eastern Prom. At the top of the epic hillclimb, go right (staying on the sidewalk) and run all the way to the Vietnam memorial (corner of Eastern Prom and North St). Turnaround at the memorial and head back down the sidewalk. Take a left onto the new Portland Trails path that leads through woods down to the East End Path. Take a right onto the Path, and follow it all the way to the finish on the Maine State Pier. Total Mileage = 3.5 miles.  The Transition Area The Main Transition Area will be situated at one of the most unique locales imaginable - inside a boat-building warehouse. All gear and bikes will be entirely protected from weather.  Field Limited to 500. Awards Top 3 M+F overall, top 3 in each age group - starting with U19, and going every 5 years up to 80+. Finisher Awards will be presented to every athlete who completes the Triathlon.  Finish and Apres One of the most exciting parts of the 2010 Zone Urban Epic is that it will be finishing on the Maine State Pier, one of the most spectacular venues in the country. Not only will you cross the line in the heart of the Old Port, but you will find yourself in the midst of a party!
