The Zone Urban Epic is organized by Tri-Maine Productions, a triathlon management company based in Portland. Tri-Maine also organizes the popular Lobsterman Triathlon, as well as a number of other races in New England.
The Swim (1.5K): The Zone Urban Epic
will start at 7:30 am with a shuttle out to Mackworth Island (at 6:30am) and a leap into Casco Bay 1 mile away from the shores of Portland. Athletes will be brought to the starting area by shuttles. The swim will be a straight shot to East
End Beach, completing one of the most spectacular swims in the world.
News : There will be a favorable current at the swimmer's back so the swim times should be faster than usual.
The Transition Area: After finishing the
swim, athletes will have to put on their shoes and run approximately
1/2 mile along a path and sidewalk to T1. The Transition Area will be situated
at one of the unique locales imaginable - inside a boat-building warehouse.
All gear and bikes will be entirely protected from weather!
The Bike (40K): Athletes will get the chance
to ride a course unavailable at any other time - from downtown Portland,
through the Industrial district, looping around Baxter Boulevard, then heading north up the coast. The 40k bike
will be an out-and-back on rolling, country roads. T2 will take place
in the same warehouse as T1.
The Run
(10K): To cap off this memorable event, athletes will run
a 10k lollipop along the Eastern Prom and the Back Cove Path. This
course is literally on the ocean from start to finish!
Field Limited to 600:
The Zone Urban/EPIC is limited to 600 athletes. There
is little doubt that it will sell-out quickly, so sign up today
to guarantee your place!
Awards:
Top 3 M+F overall, top 3 in each age group - starting with U19, and
going every 5 years up to 80+. Finisher Awards will be presented
to every athlete who completes the Triathlon.
Urban Festival:
Following the Triathlon, there will be an festival at the finish venue,
showcasing Portland's emerging urban lifestyle and featuring live reggae,
breakdancing, art displays, and more. It is free and open to the public,
so encourage friends and family to stop by!
Spectators:
The Zone Urban/EPIC is incredibly spectator-friendly. Casco Bay Ferries will be anchored out along the swim course so that you can go watch the athletes swim by! Downtown is less than a 5 min walk, so its easy
to sneak away and grab a cup of coffee. Check the race website for
more suggestions on where to watch the race.

Athletes will be required to attend packet pick-up before the
race either on Thursday or Friday. There
will be no day-of check-in. Athletes must have their bikes/helmets

and will be protected for the night by professional security personnel.
